The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has collected an amount of ₹213 crore as property tax in the first quarter (April-June) of financial year 2026-27, which is 65.5% of the total property tax collection target for the year worth ₹325 crore. It is believed that this success was largely due to higher tax collections in June with support from the tax relief program of the government of Haryana.

According to the civic body, during the month of June alone, the collections have exceeded 50 percent of the total collections during the quarter, indicating an increase in the collection due to the nearing deadline for the government to give monetary benefits. The collection for the property tax in the months of April, May, and June stood at ₹47.2 crore, ₹24.6 crore, and ₹141 crore respectively.

According to the offer made by the government of Haryana, there was a provision of 10% rebate for the property tax currently being paid and the waiver of all interests due from 2010-11 to 2024-25, provided all the pending payments were made and proper self-certification of the property was made before the deadline of June 30.

Property Tax is yet another important source of income for the Municipal Corporation and also plays an integral role in generating income which will help in meeting the infrastructural requirements of the city. This income will be used for different projects including the development of roads, drainage, drinking water, street lighting and parks in Gurugram.

The MCG commissioner Mr. Pradeep Dahiya informed that the citizens had been active in availing themselves of the rebate and waiver of interest plan launched by the state government. He also added that the money to be raised from the property tax would improve the civic infrastructure of the city.

In order to cope with the rush of tax payers at the end of the scheme, certain measures were put in place by the municipal corporation within its office premises. There were separate counters for senior citizens and women, and the tax branch employees were advised to stay on hand to help the citizens. Issues pertaining to property, ownership, and other complaints about tax were also sorted out.

It is expected that the overall figures for the collections would increase further when all the collections that have been made in the final day of the rebate program are taken into consideration. The successes of the first quarter have put the municipal government in an advantageous position to either meet or beat their objective for property tax collection for FY 2026-27.
